PanAfGeo+ is the third phase of the European Union’s geoscience capacity-building programme for Africa, delivered by EuroGeoSurveys and the Organisation of African Geological Surveys, and coordinated by the French Geological Survey (BRGM). For this new phase we built the whole visual universe in three steps: the brand, the website, and the materials and gadgets for the programme’s events.
We started from the geological map of the continent and studied its layers. Four colour families were each reduced to a single tone, then merged into one shape. We then tested the map by cluster of formations, in orange, purple and green, to see which range kept the “geological map” feeling without flattening it.

The identity settled on a warm orange and yellow range, framed by a ring of Global Gateway stars that ties it to the EU funding. It stays easy to cut, print and stick on any object, from a brochure to a sticker.

The website inherited from the previous phases no longer matched the ambition of the new one. We designed a new UX/UI from scratch, with an animated homepage, clear entry points for trainings, publications and country activities, and a full library of page templates. The full archive of the earlier phases was migrated, and the site runs with ongoing maintenance so the programme team can keep publishing.

The programme has two contracts, Partnerships & Capacity Building and Invest, with a kick-off for each. The roll-up and the brochure carry the general project name and both contracts, in English, French and Portuguese.

A merchandise line in the same orange and yellow world, chosen for the people who travel, train and work outdoors: a tote bag, a notebook, a pen, a bottle, a safety vest, a cap, a USB card and a card with a field scale. We compared suppliers and prices before selecting the items.

The same identity, dressed for the year-end card.
